“Agroforestry is a collective term for all land use systems and practices in which woody perennial plants are deliberately used on the same land where crops are grown or livestock is farmed. This can take place either simultaneously or sequentially on the same land. The concept of agroforestry also means that ecological and/or economic interaction takes place between the woody and non-woody parts of the land use system”. On our organic farm "the Baankreis" with free-range chickens we have invested in planting walnut trees in the pastures of the chickens. In this way, the chickens can enjoy a wooded area, shaded areas are created and work is done on sustainable carbon sequestration. With our walnut tree planting, we demonstrably capture 4t of carbon annually.
